Miniature Swindon
An Exhibition by Leah Bevan-Haines
Miniature items with a local connection - I would like to draw together things which relate to Swindon and the surrounding area. This could be material, or represent lived experience, and could include models or miniature artworks of:
~ Places, buildings, landmarks - past and present
~ People with a link to Swindon
~ Nature - flora, fauna and animals local to the area
~ Mini versions of objects and artworks on display in our local museums and galleries
~ Transport - models of GWR trains, Honda and MINI cars or even Spitfires
~ History - representations of various eras of Swindon’s history
~ References to culture in Swindon - this could be sport, music, food, religion etc.

A bit about your curator
My name is Leah, and I've been dabbling with crochet and embroidery for a few years alongside working and caring for my family. I’m very much new to all of this but had an embroidered portrait in the SWAF 2024 Illustrated Women in History exhibition, a mixed textiles placenta in the Fabric of Life exhibition at ThreadsFest, and this year had a mixed media poster in the open Festival of Tomorrow exhibition. My other interest is miniatures of all types. Model villages, Lego sets, dolls houses, book nooks - if it’s dinky, I love it! In a challenge to move beyond kits I’m customising and making my own miniatures for this exhibition.

How to Submit:
If you're interested in being a part of the ‘Miniature Swindon’ exhibition, please read the following:
These can be customised kits or completely original works in any medium including 3D prints, plastic/resin models, clay, paint, crochet, knit, felt, fabric, embroidery, wood, metal, paper, Lego - anything goes. Using recycled, upcycled and found items is brilliant too, it’s not about perfect recreations but rather tiny embodiments of items which connect to Swindon.
The standard scales for miniatures start at 1:6 which is Barbie doll size, 1:12 is dollhouse size, micro-minis can be 1:44 and smaller and model trains have a gauge and scale all of their own. If numbers and rulers aren’t your thing then just include a standardised object with a photo to give an idea of size - like a coin, a key, a battery or your hand. As long as it’s small, I’d love to see it!
